Pakistan has called for ensuring the safety of ships and crew, as well as the restoration of normal maritime traffic in the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz.

Speaking at the United Nations, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative Asim Iftikhar Ahmad highlighted the critical importance of the waterway for global trade and energy supplies. He stressed that the Strait of Hormuz serves as a key international maritime route for the transportation of goods and oil shipments worldwide.

Ahmad warned that the current situation in the region is having negative consequences for countries across the globe, including Pakistan. He noted that disruptions in the passage are directly affecting economic stability and placing additional strain on ordinary citizens due to rising costs linked to supply chain interruptions.

He further cautioned that continued military tensions and obstacles in the waterway could worsen the situation, leading to broader economic and geopolitical challenges. “If tensions persist, the difficulties will increase,” he said, urging all stakeholders to prioritize de-escalation and ensure uninterrupted maritime movement.

The Pakistani envoy also emphasized that any discussions or arrangements regarding the Strait of Hormuz must take into account the legitimate interests of Gulf Cooperation Council countries. He underlined the need for inclusive dialogue and cooperation among regional players to maintain stability in the area.

The remarks come amid growing concerns over maritime security in the region, where heightened geopolitical tensions have raised fears of potential disruptions to one of the world’s busiest shipping lanes.

Pakistan’s call reflects its broader stance on maintaining peace, stability, and the free flow of trade, particularly through critical global energy corridors that are essential for economic sustainability.
