At least 14 passengers have been killed and dozens injured after a collision between two trains near Jakarta, according to railway officials.

The accident occurred in the city of Bekasi, located on the outskirts of the Indonesian capital, when two passenger trains collided at a railway station. The impact of the crash caused severe damage and led to panic among passengers onboard.

Railway authorities confirmed that 14 people have died so far, while at least 84 others sustained injuries. The injured were immediately shifted to nearby hospitals for emergency medical treatment. Officials warned that the death toll may rise as rescue operations continue.

One of the trains was carrying around 240 passengers, all of whom have reportedly been accounted for and are safe. Rescue teams are still working to evacuate passengers from the second train and clear the affected tracks.

Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the collision. Preliminary reports suggest that technical failure or operational error may have contributed to the accident, although officials have not confirmed the exact reason.

Railway services in the area have been partially suspended as emergency teams continue relief and recovery operations at the site of the crash.

The incident has raised concerns over railway safety standards in Indonesia, with officials expected to review operational procedures to prevent similar accidents in the future.
