Pakistan’s agricultural sector is witnessing steady progress under the Green Pakistan Initiative (GPI), with efforts to convert barren land into productive farmland gaining momentum.

According to officials from Green Impex Private Limited, around 1,500 acres of previously uncultivated land have been successfully transformed using modern agricultural techniques. Crops such as Rhodes grass and alfalfa are now being cultivated, marking a significant improvement in land productivity.

Business Manager Muhammad Abu Bakar stated that around 20% of the produce is being supplied to local dairy farms, while 80 to 90% is being exported, contributing to both domestic supply and foreign exchange earnings. He added that the use of central pivot irrigation systems has enhanced efficiency, allowing irrigation of up to 150 acres daily while saving approximately 40% of water.

Supervisor Muhammad Mudassar highlighted the role of modern weather stations, which provide real-time data to help farmers make informed decisions regarding crop management and planning.

CEO Gulzar Ahmed said that under the initiative, facilities such as advanced machinery, irrigation systems, and agricultural support are being provided through Green Agri Mall, enabling farmers to adopt modern practices with ease.

Assistant Director of the Green Pakistan Initiative, Saad Ahsan, noted that the project is playing a key role in improving food security, boosting economic activity, and promoting social development. He emphasized that converting barren land into fertile farmland is not only increasing agricultural output but also creating new opportunities for farmers and investors.

The initiative reflects a broader strategy to modernize agriculture in Pakistan and ensure sustainable use of resources while strengthening the country’s food system.
