Tehran Islamabad flights resume

Air travel between Iran and Pakistan has resumed after a 60-day suspension following regional tensions triggered by reported US-Israeli military strikes earlier this year.

According to aviation officials, commercial flights between Tehran and Islamabad restarted on Thursday when an aircraft of Mahan Air landed at Islamabad International Airport carrying passengers on flight W5-1185. The same aircraft later operated the return leg as flight W5-1184 back to Tehran.

This marks the first direct air connection between the two capitals since 26 February 2026, when operations were suspended amid heightened regional instability. Authorities say the resumption reflects improving conditions and restored coordination between civil aviation bodies of both countries.

Airport officials confirmed that additional flights on the route are scheduled, with the next services expected on 7 May. The reopening of the corridor is seen as an important step for passengers, business travellers, and families who rely on direct connectivity between the two neighbouring countries.

The suspension of flights had caused significant disruption for travellers, forcing many to use indirect routes through Gulf hubs, increasing both travel time and costs. The resumption is expected to ease logistical challenges and restore a vital regional air link.

Aviation analysts say the restart of operations also signals gradual stabilisation in regional transport networks after months of uncertainty. However, they caution that continued normalisation will depend on broader geopolitical developments in the region.

For now, the resumption of Tehran–Islamabad flights is being welcomed as a positive development for bilateral connectivity, trade links, and people-to-people contact between Iran and Pakistan.
