US plans potential strikes to pressure Iran

The United States is reportedly considering a series of limited but powerful military strikes against Iran in an effort to push Tehran back to the negotiating table amid escalating tensions.
According to sources cited by Axios, the proposed strikes would target key Iranian infrastructure to increase pressure on its leadership and break the current deadlock in nuclear negotiations. The plan is said to be among several options being prepared by US Central Command for presentation to Donald Trump.
Officials are also weighing contingency measures, including the deployment of special forces to secure sensitive nuclear materials in the event of a conflict. At the same time, strategies to counter potential Iranian retaliation are under active review.
The developments come amid a sharp deterioration in relations between Washington and Tehran, extending beyond diplomacy into maritime and economic confrontation. The situation has intensified following a US naval buildup in the region, including the repositioning of assets linked to the United States Fifth Fleet in and around the Strait of Hormuz.

Tensions have also been fueled by disagreements over recent Iranian proposals, which reportedly called for lifting the naval blockade, reopening the Strait of Hormuz, and establishing a lasting ceasefire before resuming nuclear talks. Washington, however, has insisted that Iran must first commit to negotiations and clarify its nuclear activities.
The standoff has raised fears of broader conflict, with global markets already reacting to the uncertainty. Oil prices have surged amid concerns over supply disruptions, highlighting the strategic importance of the region.
Analysts warn that while limited strikes may be intended as leverage, they carry the risk of rapid escalation into a wider confrontation, potentially destabilising the Middle East and impacting the global economy.
