Saudi Arabia has reportedly proposed a regional non-aggression agreement involving Middle Eastern countries and Iran in an effort to ease tensions following the recent conflict involving Iran, the United States and Israel.

According to a report by the British newspaper Financial Times, Saudi officials have discussed the proposal with allied countries to explore ways of maintaining regional stability after the war and preventing future escalation.

Diplomatic sources cited in the report said Riyadh is considering a framework similar to the Helsinki process of the 1970s, which played a key role in reducing tensions in Europe during the Cold War. Saudi Arabia reportedly sees that model as a possible path toward confidence-building and security cooperation in the Middle East.

The report said Gulf states are increasingly concerned that the region could face a more aggressive and hardened Iran after the recent conflict. There are also fears among regional governments that the United States could reduce its military presence in the Middle East in the future, creating new security challenges.

Several European countries are said to have welcomed the Saudi initiative and encouraged other Gulf nations to support the proposal. Diplomats, however, acknowledged that the success of any agreement would depend on which countries ultimately participate.

One diplomat quoted in the report said it currently appears difficult to bring both Iran and Israel into the same framework due to ongoing hostility between the two sides. The diplomat also warned that excluding Israel from such an arrangement could weaken the effectiveness of the agreement or even create further complications.

The proposed initiative reflects growing diplomatic efforts by regional powers to prevent another large-scale conflict and establish a broader security mechanism aimed at long-term peace and stability in the Middle East.
