Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated that ongoing talks between Iran and the United States under Pakistan’s mediation have not failed but are facing serious challenges.

Speaking at a press conference in New Delhi, he emphasized that Iran did not initiate conflict but acted in self-defense and continues efforts to maintain the ceasefire.

He addressed concerns about the Strait of Hormuz, clarifying that Iran is not responsible for disruptions and that restrictions apply only to nations involved in hostilities.

Araghchi noted that Iranian naval forces are guiding ships, including Indian vessels, safely through the region, which remains dangerous due to the presence of mines.

He stressed that Iran is willing to continue negotiations only if the opposing side demonstrates seriousness, while conflicting messages from the US have eroded trust.

According to him, Iran’s nuclear program remains peaceful, as previously demonstrated under the 2015 Iran Nuclear Deal.

He concluded that while Pakistan-mediated talks are ongoing, the process remains difficult due to mutual distrust, though Iran still supports diplomacy as the preferred path forward.
