Another Shock for the Public: Electricity Prices May Rise

ISLAMABAD – The Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) has submitted a formal request to the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) seeking a price increase in electricity under the monthly fuel price adjustment for April 2025.

According to the application, the CPPA has proposed a Rs 1.27 per unit increase in power tariffs. NEPRA is set to conduct a hearing on the request on May 29, after which a final decision will be made.

In its report, CPPA stated that 10.513 billion units of electricity were generated in April, while 10.196 billion units were supplied to distribution companies across the country.

The average cost of power generation in April was recorded at Rs 8.94 per unit, compared to the reference cost of Rs 7.68 per unit.
