Azma Bukhari Hits Back at PPP’s Harsh Remarks

LAHORE: The political row between PML-N and its ally PPP continues to escalate, with sharp exchanges intensifying by the day. Punjab Information Minister Azma Bukhari strongly criticized PPP leaders for what she called their “hypocrisy and double standards.” She accused them of calling for peace while constantly attacking the PML-N in public. “You talk ceasefire but fire verbal bullets every hour,” she said during a press briefing.
Bukhari expressed frustration over repeated provocations from the PPP side. She mocked PPP leaders for “rushing to microphones to throw accusations.” She claimed the PPP plays the victim whenever PML-N responds. “When we speak mildly, they begin to cry,” she said. According to Bukhari, the PPP lacks the moral ground to preach democracy. She insisted PML-N has shown restraint despite personal attacks.
The minister warned that if PPP continues attacking PML-N’s leadership, they should not expect silence in return. “Do you expect flower garlands after insulting us all day?” she asked. She stressed that respect must be mutual in any political alliance. Bukhari defended her party’s leadership and said they had tolerated much in silence.
In a firm remark, Bukhari said, “Sindh is not the personal estate of feudal lords.” She criticized those who speak of “Sindhu Desh” and said the province belongs to all Pakistanis. Her statement seemed directed at PPP leaders often seen emphasizing regional identity. She called on all parties to act responsibly and avoid fueling unnecessary conflict.
Tensions have been rising since Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz made remarks that angered the PPP. The friction led PPP lawmakers to stage a walkout from the National Assembly on Monday. Although they later returned after talks with government members, the alliance remains under visible strain. Both parties now face growing pressure to restore unity before tensions escalate further.
