Babar Azam Nears Historic Milestone in ODI Cricket

Pakistan’s star batter Babar Azam is on the verge of achieving two major milestones in One Day International (ODI) cricket.

As Pakistan prepares to face the West Indies in the first match of a three-game ODI series at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy today at 11:00 pm, Babar is just one century away from rewriting national history.

The 30-year-old is about to break Saeed Anwar’s record for most ODI centuries by a Pakistani. Anwar had scored 20 centuries in 247 matches and 244 innings. In comparison, Babar has already scored 19 centuries in only 131 matches and 128 innings, needing just one more to surpass the legendary opener.

  • Babar Azam – 19* centuries in 131 matches
  • Mohammad Yousuf – 15 centuries in 281 matches

Babar is also close to becoming the second-fastest player in ODI history to score 20 centuries. If he reaches the milestone within the next four innings, he will surpass Virat Kohli, who reached 20 tonnes in 133 innings.

Currently, Hashim Amla holds the record for being the fastest to 20 ODI centuries, achieving the feat in just 108 innings.
