CM Maryam Nawaz Approves Wheat Subsidy for 600,000 Farmers Under Kissan Card Scheme

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has greenlit a significant relief package for farmers, approving a wheat support subsidy of Rs. 5,000 per acre for 600,000 farmers across the province under the ‘Kissan Card’ initiative.

In a special meeting focused on agricultural development, the Chief Minister confirmed that non-registered farmers will also be eligible to benefit from the subsidy, ensuring broader coverage of the program.

She further announced that billions of rupees in additional subsidies are being earmarked for the upcoming crop season, as part of the government’s continued efforts to boost the agriculture sector and empower the farming community.

During the session, officials revealed that farmers have already utilised Rs. 36 billion through the Kissan Card facility for purchasing essential agricultural inputs such as seeds, fertilisers, and pesticides.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz also reviewed the progress of the agricultural tube wells solarisation scheme, reiterating her administration’s commitment to promoting sustainable and modern farming practices across Punjab.

“This is not just about financial support; it’s about building a stronger and self-reliant agricultural economy in Punjab,” she said, emphasising long-term reforms and innovation in the sector.
