Devastating Floods in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Turn Joy into Tragedy

On 15 August, severe rains, cloudbursts, and flash floods wreaked havoc across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), causing tragic loss of life and property in Buner and Swabi districts.
Hundreds of people lost their lives, dozens of homes were destroyed, and livestock perished in the floods. In many cases, celebrations and weddings turned into scenes of mourning. Local residents have shared heartbreaking accounts of the devastation.
In Swabi’s Dalori Gadun area, a house built on a hillside collapsed, burying a mother and her four children while they were having breakfast. Volunteers recovered the bodies, and reports revealed that the children were still holding pieces of bread in their hands. The father had been working abroad and was devastated to see the tragedy upon his return.
Meanwhile, in Buner’s Gokand area, a planned wedding turned into a nightmare. Janid Khan had scheduled his Walima ceremony for 22 August, but the flood on 15 August claimed eight family members, including his mother, two sisters, a younger brother, his sister-in-law, two children, and a cousin. Janid Khan survived but remains haunted by the incident.
Officials and rescue teams have been working tirelessly to provide relief, but the scale of the disaster has left communities in shock. Emergency response efforts continue in affected areas to assist survivors and recover missing persons.
