Minister Atta Tarar said human lives and property suffered serious losses in recent rains. He explained that the Prime Minister directed faster relief activities in affected areas. NDMA, the army, and federal and provincial governments are jointly implementing rescue strategies.
He added that timely information is being delivered to the public during the flood emergency. According to officials, more than 25,000 people have been moved to safer places so far. Relief work continues in coordination with civil and military institutions.
The NDMA chairman said northern areas faced flooding due to melting glaciers. He reported that 670 people have died, while 1,000 others were injured in rains and floods. He confirmed that most missing persons were later found dead.
The Chairman also noted that cloudbursts triggered flash floods in many areas. He added that the Army Chief directed close coordination with agencies for rescue efforts. Since August 17, 25,000 people have been rescued, and injured victims are receiving full medical support.
He warned that the seventh spell of monsoon rains will intensify until August 23. NDMA has completed preparations for the new spell. The Prime Minister’s relief package is already reaching five districts, including food and medicines.
