Pro-Palestinian Protests Erupt Across Europe After Israel Stops Gaza Aid Flotilla

Pro-Palestinian demonstrators across Europe took to the streets on Thursday after Israeli forces stopped a Gaza-bound aid flotilla. Armed Israeli soldiers boarded around 40 ships trying to break a naval blockade. They arrested over 400 foreign activists, including climate campaigner Greta Thunberg. The move sparked widespread outrage and global protests.

In Barcelona, protesters damaged shops and restaurants, including Starbucks, Burger King, and Carrefour. They spray-painted anti-Israel slogans, accusing these businesses of supporting Israel’s actions in Gaza. However, some marchers, like Akram Azahomaras, condemned the violence. She called for peaceful protests using words rather than vandalism.

Meanwhile, in Italy, students occupied several universities such as Milan’s Statale and Rome’s La Sapienza. In Bologna, protesters blocked university access with car tires, while hundreds stopped traffic in Turin. Health workers planned a flash mob in Rome to honor 1,677 Gaza medical staff killed in the conflict. Italian unions also called for a general strike to support the flotilla.

The protests spread beyond Europe, with rallies held in Dublin, Paris, Berlin, Geneva, Buenos Aires, Mexico City, and Karachi. In Istanbul, crowds gathered outside the Israeli embassy holding banners condemning Israel’s actions. They urged people not to remain silent and to stand against what they called a massacre.

The war in Gaza has tragically killed over 66,000 people, according to Palestinian authorities. The international community continues to react strongly to the blockade and the flotilla interception. These protests show growing global anger and a demand for peace and humanitarian aid access.
