Holiday

The Islamabad administration has announced another public holiday in August, just before Pakistan’s Independence Day celebrations.

According to a notification issued on August 12, the holiday will be observed on August 13. Essential services, however, will continue to operate as usual during the holiday.

Earlier, the Sindh government had declared a holiday on August 9 to mark the 282nd annual Urs of Hazrat Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai. This event holds great cultural and spiritual importance in Sindh, attracting thousands of devotees each year. These holidays reflect the country’s tradition of observing important cultural and national occasions.

In preparation for Independence Day on August 14, authorities in Islamabad have also imposed a ban on the sale and use of ‘baajas’ (vuvuzelas). Officials stated that these noisemakers, although popular among some, often cause disturbance to others. The ban aims to ensure peaceful and respectful celebrations.

The Deputy Commissioner of Islamabad issued a strict warning against violating this ban. Anyone found selling or using ‘baajas’ will face legal action. Similar restrictions have been enforced in the past during national celebrations to maintain public order.

Pakistan will mark its 78th Independence Day on August 14, 2025, with patriotic zeal across the country. The day will be filled with flag-hoisting ceremonies, cultural programmes, and vibrant displays of green and white. Major cities like Karachi, Lahore, Quetta, and Peshawar will be decorated with lights, flags, and other festive adornments.

Educational institutions will also play an active role in the celebrations. Schools and colleges are set to host debates, poetry contests, and other patriotic events. These activities aim to engage the youth and foster national pride while honouring Pakistan’s history and independence.
