Fakhar Zaman unfazed by controversy

Pakistani opener Fakhar Zaman has said that the recent ball-tampering controversy had no impact on his performance, insisting that such incidents do not affect him mentally or professionally.

In a recent interview, Fakhar stated that he has faced bigger challenges throughout his cricketing career and believes that minor issues should not influence a player’s mindset. “If such incidents start affecting your performance, survival at the top level becomes difficult,” he said, adding that even a slight impact on his game was “out of the question.”

Talking about his batting position, Fakhar reiterated that he prefers opening the innings, a role he has performed throughout his career in domestic cricket, international matches, and the Pakistan Super League. However, he acknowledged that decisions regarding team combination ultimately rest with the captain and coaching staff.

The left-handed batter also expressed confidence in his franchise, Lahore Qalandars, stating that the team has a history of bouncing back strongly after slow starts. He emphasised that winning multiple titles in recent years has boosted the squad’s confidence and created a positive mindset.

Fakhar praised captain Shaheen Shah Afridi for his leadership qualities, highlighting his ability to maintain team unity during both victories and defeats. He noted that true leadership is tested during challenging times.

Looking ahead, Fakhar said his primary focus remains on performing well in the upcoming ODI World Cup. He also dismissed rumours about relocating abroad, calling them baseless.

Reflecting on his journey, he expressed satisfaction with his career but admitted he wished to have played more Test matches for Pakistan national cricket team.
