Floodwater Removed from Kartarpur Gurdwara, Historic Site Restored for Worshippers

Authorities in Narowal have completed a major operation to remove floodwater from the Kartarpur Gurdwara complex and restore the holy site.
According to officials, the Punjab government launched an emergency cleaning and rehabilitation operation after severe flooding left the sacred site under 10 to 12 feet of water. Rescue teams had earlier evacuated visiting pilgrims using motorboats before the restoration work began.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz ordered the special operation, directing government departments and the “Suthra Punjab” teams to work day and night. The teams pumped out water, cleaned the premises, and restored the prayer halls, courtyards, and the main entrance to their original condition.
The Deputy Commissioner of Nankana Sahib personally supervised the operation to ensure the restoration was carried out quickly and effectively. Officials confirmed that the gurdwara will reopen to international pilgrims within three to four days.
Local residents and members of the Sikh community expressed gratitude for the rapid response. Many said they were surprised at how quickly the historic and spiritual centre was brought back to life.
In a social media statement, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz wrote: “Kartarpur — from floods to faith. A special dewatering operation has been completed at the Gurdwara Darbar Sahib, which was fully submerged. It has now been restored to a dry and safe condition.”
