Government Forms Committee to Prevent Animal Cruelty

The government has established a special committee to prevent cruelty against animals and improve their welfare.

The committee has been formed under the directives of the Prime Minister, with an official notification issued by the Ministry of Climate Change.

According to the notification, the committee will be headed by Dr. Musadik Malik, and will include members such as the Minister of State for Interior, environmental activists, and other stakeholders.

The primary objective of the committee is to strengthen legal and institutional mechanisms for animal protection across the country.

As per the terms of reference, the committee will also propose measures to curb illegal wildlife trade and smuggling.

Additionally, it will develop plans for the care and welfare of stray animals.

The committee has been directed to submit its recommendations by April 27, 2026, with full administrative support from the Ministry of Climate Change.
