LAHORE: The Chairman of the Prime Minister’s Youth Programme, Rana Mashhood Ahmad Khan, announced the launch of the National Youth Employment Policy (NYEP) on Monday. Speaking at Aiwan-e-Iqbal, he shared that the policy aims to create job opportunities for youth both in Pakistan and abroad. The initiative includes overseas employment for 1.8 million youth, setting up employment exchanges in every district, and launching green jobs across the country. He emphasized that the policy will open doors for all young Pakistanis to live dignified and productive lives.

Rana Mashhood highlighted that Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the US, Türkiye, and Belarus have offered jobs for skilled Pakistani workers. The government is also focusing on professional and language training to prepare youth for international job markets. A committee, chaired by the Prime Minister, will meet every two months to monitor progress. The policy covers youth in schools, colleges, universities, and even those outside the education system. Women are also a core part of the employment plan through 2029.

To promote entrepreneurship and innovation, Rana Mashhood announced plans to register ten new businesses under the programme. The government also intends to rehabilitate youth involved in unproductive or harmful activities. These individuals will be redirected toward constructive projects, including those under the green jobs initiative. This part of the policy aims to reduce negative behavior and channel young energy into economic growth.

The NYEP also features the launch of employment exchanges in all districts across Pakistan. These centers will assist job seekers both online and offline, offering doorstep support. The goal is to make the job market more accessible, especially in rural and underserved areas. The exchanges will also help match employers with trained youth efficiently. This effort aims to reduce unemployment and bridge the skills-employment gap.

In closing, Rana Mashhood said the National Youth Employment Policy is a bold and inclusive step to unlock Pakistan’s human capital. The programme will help transform Pakistan’s youth into a skilled and empowered workforce. It combines local development with global employment opportunities, creating hope and direction for the next generation. The government has pledged to sustain and expand these efforts through long-term commitment and regular reviews.
