Gun attack in Quetta kills two, sparks Hazara protest

A deadly shooting in Quetta on Sunday left two members of the Hazara community dead and at least three others injured, triggering protests and traffic disruption across the provincial capital.

According to police, unidentified gunmen riding a motorcycle opened fire at civilians in the busy Hazarganji Fruit Market during the morning hours. The victims, who were engaged in routine trading activities, were caught off guard as the attackers fled the scene within minutes after the assault.

The deceased were identified as Haji Musa and Ahmed Ali, both known traders in the market. The injured, including Chaman Ali and Jafar Ali, were shifted to Bolan Medical College Hospital, where one victim remains in critical condition.

Security forces and police personnel quickly arrived at the site, cordoned off the area, and launched a search operation to trace the attackers. Authorities confirmed that no group had claimed responsibility for the attack at the time of reporting.

Following the incident, members of the Hazara community staged a sit-in protest, blocking the Western Bypass and causing significant traffic congestion in various parts of the city. Protesters demanded swift justice and enhanced security measures to prevent such attacks in the future.

Sarfraz Bugti strongly condemned the incident, calling it an unacceptable act of violence against innocent citizens. He directed law enforcement agencies to immediately apprehend those responsible and ensure justice.

Jaffar Khan Mandokhail also denounced the attack, terming it an attempt by terrorist elements to disrupt peace and spread fear. Officials assured full medical support to the injured and solidarity with the victims’ families.
