India wins third T20 World Cup

India defeated New Zealand by 96 runs in the final of the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 to claim their third T20 title. The match, played at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, saw India put on a dominant performance, making India wins third T20 World Cup title the highlight of the tournament.

New Zealand won the toss and chose to bowl first. India posted a strong total of 255 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in their 20 overs, thanks to brilliant innings from Sanju Samson, Ishan Kishan, and Abhishek Sharma.

Sanju Samson scored 89 runs off 46 balls, Ishan Kishan made 54 off 24 balls, and Abhishek Sharma added 52 off 21 balls. Shivam Dubey remained unbeaten on 26 runs from 8 balls. For New Zealand, James Neesham took 3 wickets, while Matt Henry and Rachin Ravindra claimed one wicket each.

Chasing 256, New Zealand struggled and were all out for 159 runs in 19 overs. Tim Seifert scored 52, and captain Mitchell Santner added 43, but India’s massive total proved too strong to overcome. Jasprit Bumrah took 4 wickets and Axar Patel took 3 to secure India’s victory.

With this win, India wins third T20 World Cup title, becoming the first team to defend a T20 World Cup successfully. India had previously won in 2007 and 2024, making them the team with the most T20 World Cup victories in history.
