In a startling revelation, Indian Air Force Chief Air Marshal AP Singh has blown the whistle on deep-rooted corruption and inefficiencies plaguing India’s defence procurement system. Speaking candidly, he admitted that while numerous defence deals are signed, the promised weapons and systems often never arrive.

Air Marshal Singh stated that the timelines for project completion are routinely ignored, saying, “No defence project has ever been completed on time. We are aware that some systems will never be delivered, yet we continue signing agreements.”

Highlighting the flawed approach within the procurement process, he described a concerning strategy of “we’ll see what to do later”, which leads to persistent delays and unreliable project outcomes. According to him, there isn’t a single major defence project that has been completed on schedule.

The Air Chief also acknowledged the impact of Operation Sindoor, describing it as a wake-up call for India’s defence leadership. He stressed that the operation exposed how the nature of warfare and military strategy is evolving, urging a need to rethink planning and preparedness.

In a direct critique of the system, he asked, “Why do we make promises that we know we cannot keep?” — a question that points to a larger issue of accountability and transparency in India’s defence infrastructure.
