Islamabad to Follow Shanghai Model, Says Mohsin Naqvi

SHANGHAI – Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi said Shanghai’s rapid and well-planned development is a model for cities worldwide. He added that Pakistan aims to develop Islamabad along similar lines to benefit from Shanghai’s experience. Naqvi emphasized adopting modern urban planning techniques to improve civic facilities and city management in Islamabad.

During his visit to Shanghai Urban Planning Headquarters, Naqvi was received by the head of Shanghai Urban Planning, Madam Chen. She briefed him on the city’s master planning, infrastructure, and public facilities. Naqvi received detailed presentations, videos, and city models outlining Shanghai’s urban evolution and future vision.

The minister was also shown a model of Shanghai’s state-of-the-art stadium and its integrated urban management system. He praised the use of technology-driven solutions that make Shanghai’s urban systems efficient, coordinated, and reliable. Naqvi highlighted the importance of using such technology for Islamabad’s future urban planning projects.

He lauded Shanghai’s ability to achieve rapid development while ensuring high-quality civic facilities. “Shanghai’s development is unparalleled and serves as a benchmark for cities worldwide,” Naqvi said. He confirmed Pakistan will take immediate steps to emulate Shanghai’s urban development strategies in Islamabad.

Federal Interior Secretary Muhammad Khurram Agha, Islamabad Chief Commissioner Muhammad Ali Randhawa, and Inspector General Ali Nasir Rizvi accompanied the minister. Naqvi also recorded his impressions in the visitors’ book, reflecting his appreciation of Shanghai’s urban planning achievements. The visit underlined Pakistan’s intent to modernize Islamabad through technology-driven and well-coordinated urban management systems.
