Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Local Governments to Protest February 11

PESHAWAR: Local government representatives in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa announced a protest sit-in on February 11. The demonstration will oppose the continued exploitation of the local government system in the province. The protest is organized under the banner of the Local Councils Association Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. It will be held at Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly Chowk in Peshawar. Authorities expect participation from mayors, tehsil, and village council chairmen across the province.
Mayor of Peshawar, Zubair Ali, described the sit-in as historic. He said local governments have been paralysed for the past four years. He added that amendments to the Local Government Act were part of a well-thought-out plan. According to him, the lack of powers and development funds has worsened public problems. Despite limited resources, local government representatives continue to serve the people.
The mayor said representatives will participate in large numbers to highlight the neglect of local governance. He emphasized that the protest is aimed at restoring authority and resources to local bodies. He called on the public to support the cause. He noted that the protest would also send a message to provincial authorities about public dissatisfaction.

The protest aims to pressure the provincial government to restore powers and development funds to local governments. Leaders insist that decentralization is necessary for effective public service delivery. They hope the demonstration will lead to meaningful reforms. The February 11 sit-in is set to become a significant event in the province’s political calendar.
