Australia’s dynamic all-rounder Glenn Maxwell, popularly known as “The Big Show”, has officially announced his retirement from One Day International (ODI) cricket. The 36-year-old, known for his explosive batting and handy off-spin, confirmed he will no longer be available for the 50-over format with immediate effect.

According to Cricket Australia, Maxwell will now shift his focus entirely toward T20 cricket, especially the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup. However, he has not yet formally retired from Test cricket.

Speaking during an episode of The Final Word podcast, Maxwell reflected on the physical and emotional challenges he faced, particularly after a serious leg injury in 2022. He admitted that during that period, he felt like he was letting his team down.

Maxwell shared that before making the decision, he had detailed discussions with Australia’s chief selector, George Bailey. He acknowledged that his ODI career has been a rollercoaster, filled with highs and lows, but said he is grateful for the journey and the memories.

Throughout his career, Maxwell played 149 ODIs for Australia, contributing significantly as both a batter and a bowler. His aggressive style and ability to change the course of a game made him a fan favourite.

One of Maxwell’s most iconic performances came during the 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup in India. Under intense pressure, he scored a stunning 201 off just 128 balls* against Afghanistan in Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. His innings included 21 boundaries and 10 sixes and is remembered as one of the greatest in World Cup history.
