Karachi Water Supply Disrupted

KARACHI – October 16, 2025: The water supply in Karachi has been severely affected due to ongoing repair work on key pipelines and pumping stations throughout the city.

The Karachi Water Corporation (KWC) spokesperson confirmed that maintenance is currently being carried out on the 11K line linked to the North East Pumping Station, where a leak was detected in a 48-inch main pipeline. This has resulted in the temporary shutdown of three pumps supplying water to Karachi. Additionally, one pump at the Dhabeji Pumping Station is also offline for repairs.

As a result, several areas, including Scheme 33, Safora, North Nazimabad, Gulberg, Liaquatabad, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Gulistan-e-Jauhar, and the Federal B. Area, are experiencing critical water shortages.

The spokesperson noted that the halt in main pipeline operations has also disrupted water tanker services, exacerbating the city’s ongoing water crisis. Approximately 150 million gallons per day (MGD) of water supply have been cut off temporarily during these repair efforts.

Officials have assured residents that the repair work is expected to be completed within ten hours, after which water supply will gradually return to normal levels.

Despite the disruption, the Karachi Water Corporation stated that around 500 MGD of water continues to be supplied to the city from alternative sources as part of routine measures.

In related news, Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has urged swift government action to address Karachi’s longstanding water shortages. Speaking at the inauguration of the new Hub Canal, Bilawal called on Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to deliver on promises with “Shehbaz Speed.”

Bilawal emphasized the importance of cooperation between federal and provincial authorities to ensure a steady and clean water supply for Karachi. He highlighted ongoing efforts to establish water treatment plants, which will eventually benefit both residential and industrial sectors.
