Mustafizur Rahman’s Injury Forces Him Out of Pakistan T20Is; Khaled Ahmed Steps In

Bangladesh’s hopes for a strong performance in the upcoming T20I series against Pakistan have taken a major hit as star pacer Mustafizur Rahman has been ruled out due to injury.

The left-arm fast bowler suffered a clip fracture on his left thumb while attempting a return catch during his last match in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. The injury occurred while playing for Delhi Capitals, and immediate medical attention confirmed the seriousness of the issue.

In an official statement, Bangladesh team physio Bayjedul Islam Hossain confirmed that Mustafizur’s injury would require a recovery period of at least two to three weeks. “Mustafizur suffered a clip fracture on his left thumb while playing his last match of the Indian Premier League yesterday,” Hossain said. “This injury requires a period of rest and rehabilitation. As per our current assessment, he will be unavailable for selection for the next two to three weeks. We will conduct a follow-up evaluation after two weeks to monitor his recovery progress.”

As a result, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has announced Khaled Ahmed as Mustafizur’s replacement for the T20I series against Pakistan. Khaled, who impressed with his recent domestic performances, will be stepping into the pace attack in Mustafizur’s absence.

This is yet another setback for Bangladesh ahead of the three-match series set to begin on May 28 in Lahore, as the team has already made a few last-minute changes due to injuries and personal withdrawals.
