Artemis II moon mission

The NASA has officially begun the countdown for its historic Artemis II launch at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida, marking a major milestone in human space exploration.

The countdown clock started at 4:44 p.m. EDT on March 30, targeting liftoff at 6:24 p.m. EDT on April 1, 2026. The mission will send four astronauts on a journey around the Moon, making it the first crewed lunar mission since 1972.

Inside the Rocco Petrone Launch Control Center, astronauts Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, Christina Koch, and Jeremy Hansen are preparing for launch. The crew arrived at the space center days earlier and have since been undergoing medical evaluations and technical briefings.

NASA’s Space Launch System rocket and Orion spacecraft will make their first crewed trip on Artemis II.The mission is designed as a 10-day round trip around the Moon, testing systems critical for future deep-space exploration.

Engineers are currently conducting final preparations, including powering up flight systems, testing communications, and preparing cryogenic fueling operations using super-cooled liquid hydrogen and oxygen. Weather conditions are also being closely monitored in coordination with the U.S. Space Force to ensure safe launch conditions.

The astronauts are staying at the Neil A. Armstrong Operations and Checkout Building, following strict schedules that include controlled sleep, diet plans, and continuous updates on mission status.

The Artemis II mission represents a significant step forward in NASA’s broader goal of returning humans to the Moon and eventually sending crewed missions to Mars, signaling a new era of space exploration.
