Oman’s Ministry of Information has issued a warning regarding the circulation and publication of media content that violates existing laws, stressing the need for strict compliance with the country’s media regulations.

In an official statement, the ministry said it is actively monitoring content being shared across various platforms, including social media and other digital channels. The monitoring covers audio and visual materials such as songs, videos, and other productions that may breach Oman’s Media Law and its executive regulations.

Authorities emphasized that all individuals and organizations involved in media production and distribution must adhere to national legislation governing content creation and publication. The ministry highlighted that violations of these laws would result in legal action in accordance with applicable regulations

The directive also extends to content created using artificial intelligence technologies, either partially or fully. Officials noted that AI-generated material is subject to the same legal standards as traditional media content, particularly in cases where it may infringe on cultural, legal, or ethical guidelines.

The ministry reiterated its commitment to maintaining regulatory oversight of the media sector and ensuring that published content aligns with national laws and values. It also urged content creators, media outlets, and digital users to exercise responsibility and caution when sharing material online.

The announcement comes amid growing regional attention on regulating digital platforms and emerging technologies, including AI-generated media, which has increasingly raised concerns over misinformation, copyright issues, and content authenticity.

Officials said the goal of the regulations is not only to enforce compliance but also to promote responsible media practices in a rapidly evolving digital environment.

The Ministry of Information added that it will continue to take necessary measures against any violations identified through its monitoring systems, reinforcing that legal accountability will apply to all forms of media content distributed within the country.
