Pakistan has stepped up high-level diplomatic engagement with Iran in an effort to persuade Tehran to participate in a second round of negotiations aimed at preserving a fragile ceasefire and advancing long-term regional stability, officials said.

According to informed sources, Pakistan’s top leadership is actively engaged with Iranian counterparts to secure their participation in the proposed talks. Key figures involved in the outreach include Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Chief of Army Staff Asim Munir, and Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi.

Officials say Islamabad’s primary objective is to prevent any escalation of tensions while ensuring that the current ceasefire is extended. Pakistan is also working to bring both sides to the negotiating table for direct dialogue, which is seen as essential for achieving durable peace in the region.

A senior source familiar with the developments stated that Pakistan is making “all-out efforts” and is currently awaiting a formal response from Tehran regarding its participation. Once Iran confirms, Islamabad is prepared to host the second round of talks at short notice.

Despite reports in sections of international media suggesting imminent negotiations, Pakistan clarified that no final confirmation had been received. Information Minister Attaullah Tarar said late Tuesday that the government was still awaiting an official reply from the Iranian side regarding the proposed peace talks.

He emphasized that Pakistan, acting as a mediator, remains in continuous contact with Iranian authorities and is committed to pursuing diplomatic solutions. Tarar also highlighted that the ceasefire is set to expire soon, underlining the urgency of a decision from Tehran.

Officials reiterated that Pakistan’s facilitation efforts are ongoing, with the aim of ensuring dialogue prevails over confrontation at a critical moment for regional peace.
