As Pakistan embarks on its two-year term as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) for 2025-2026, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar reaffirmed the country’s commitment to working collaboratively with all UNSC members and the broader UN membership.

In a reception hosted for the heads of resident missions of UNSC member states at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Wednesday, Ishaq Dar expressed Pakistan’s dedication to bridging divides, fostering consensus, and upholding the UNSC’s mandate in line with the principles and purposes of the UN Charter.

Speaking on the occasion, Dar noted that Pakistan’s election to the UNSC for the eighth time brings with it a legacy of experience and a steadfast commitment to the UN’s core principles. He emphasised Pakistan’s significant contributions to global peace and security, particularly through its active participation in UN peacekeeping and peacebuilding missions across the world.

Highlighting Pakistan’s approach during its tenure, Dar stated that the country would seek just and peaceful resolutions to the situations on the UNSC’s agenda. He reiterated Pakistan’s opposition to the unilateral and illegal use or threat of force, its stance against terrorism in all its forms, and its unwavering support for effective UN peacekeeping and peacebuilding efforts.

Dar also extended his gratitude to all UN member states for their overwhelming support in electing Pakistan to the prestigious position on the Security Council.
