Playing Noor Jehan Song Loudly

PHOOL NAGAR, Punjab: Police in Phool Nagar have arrested a shopkeeper for playing a song by legendary Pakistani singer Noor Jehan at an excessively high volume, causing a disturbance to nearby residents.

According to officials, the Sadar Pattoki police station received complaints about the shop in a local market where the song “Weikh We Din Charrheya Ke Nahin” was being played loudly. Police promptly arrived at the scene, arrested the shopkeeper, and filed a case under the Punjab Sound Systems (Regulation) Act, 2015, commonly known as the Punjab Sound Act.

Earlier this month, authorities had taken similar action against a rickshaw driver for playing a song by another renowned singer, Naseebo Lal, in violation of the same law.

A spokesperson for the Okara Police emphasized that strict action would continue against anyone breaking sound regulations, adding that the law exists to prevent public nuisance and protect peace and order in the community.

The Punjab Sound Systems Act was enacted to regulate the use of sound systems across the province. It aims to maintain public decency and environmental standards by limiting excessive noise, with penalties for violations that can include fines or imprisonment.
