Pakistan Sets Mid-December Date for PIA Privatization

The government of Pakistan has officially announced that the PIA privatization date set for mid-December will move the long-delayed process forward. This marks an important step in resolving the long-standing issues of the national airline.

According to officials, the Prime Minister will host all pre-qualified bidders today. The meeting is intended to brief them on the final stage of the process and to highlight the government’s seriousness in completing the privatization.

Pakistan is finally moving ahead with with the long-awaited privatization of the national carrier. The submission of final bids has been planned for the second week of December, bringing the process closer to completion after many delays.

Officials said Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has invited all pre-qualified bidders to a lunch at the PM House. The gesture aims to show the government’s strong commitment to completing this historic step and to reassure investors of a business-friendly environment.

The bidding phase is expected between December 12 and 15, 2025. During the meeting, the Prime Minister is likely to thank the bidders and reaffirm that the government will maintain stable policies as the PIA privatization date set approaches, with Advisor on Privatization Muhammad Ali playing a key role in bringing major business groups into the process.
