Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif congratulated the Pakistan cricket team for winning the ODI series against Sri Lanka. He praised the team’s performance and commended PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi for his efforts. On social media, Sharif called it a “wonderful display of cricket’s unifying spirit” and thanked Sri Lanka’s players and management for their participation. He highlighted the enduring friendship between the two nations.
Pakistan secured the series-clinching win in the second ODI at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium. Babar Azam ended a two-year century drought with an unbeaten 102 off 119 balls. His knock, which included eight boundaries, guided Pakistan to a comfortable eight-wicket victory while chasing a target of 289 runs. The victory was achieved with 10 balls to spare.
Babar Azam’s partnership with Mohammad Rizwan played a key role in the win. Rizwan scored 51 not out, and the pair shared an unbeaten 112-run stand. Their partnership ensured Pakistan reached the target without much difficulty. Fakhar Zaman and Saim Ayub also provided a fast start, adding 77 runs in just 9.3 overs.
Sri Lanka posted a competitive total of 288/8 in their 50 overs. Janith Liyanage contributed a valuable 50 runs, and a fifth-wicket partnership with Saddera Samarawickrama (42) steadied their innings. However, Pakistan’s bowlers, led by Abrar Ahmed and Haris Rauf, broke through at crucial moments to dismantle Sri Lanka’s middle order.
Dushmantha Chameera was the standout bowler for Sri Lanka, claiming 2/58. Despite his efforts, Sri Lanka could not defend their total. Pakistan’s victory secured them the series, highlighting both individual brilliance and strong team performance. The win added another memorable chapter to Pakistan’s cricketing achievements.
