Widespread protests and rallies were held across Karachi, Hyderabad, Sukkur and Jacobabad on Sunday as citizens and political activists took to the streets against rising petroleum prices and increasing inflation.

In Sukkur, workers of the Sindh United Party staged a symbolic protest outside the press club. Demonstrators wore shrouds and observed a hunger strike to highlight the economic hardships faced by the public. Party leader Eidan Jagirani criticised the government’s recent fuel price policies, stating that a minor reduction followed a steep increase, leaving essential goods unaffordable.

At the same venue, members of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, led by Gohar Khan Khoso, held a separate demonstration. They warned that petrol prices had surged significantly, placing severe pressure on household budgets, and threatened to expand protests nationwide if relief measures were not introduced.

Karachi Closes Major Roads Ahead of Potential Protests

Meanwhile, Awami Tehreek organised a rally from Teer Chowk to Ghanta Ghar, followed by a sit-in. Leaders criticised the government, including Shehbaz Sharif and Murad Ali Shah, accusing them of failing to control inflation and offering only temporary relief.

In Karachi, labour organisations including the National Trade Union Federation Pakistan and the Home-Based Women Workers Federation held a joint protest demanding wage increases and removal of fuel taxes.

A bicycle rally in Jacobabad symbolised the public’s struggle to afford transport. Despite heightened tensions, protests remained peaceful across the province.
