Nankana Sahib: The Deputy Commissioner of Nankana Sahib, Tasleem Akhtar Rao, has declared Wednesday, November 5, 2025, a public holiday in observance of the birth anniversary of Baba Guru Nanak, the founder of Sikhism. All government institutions, schools, and colleges in the district will remain closed in honor of the occasion.

Sikh pilgrims from across the world have gathered in Nankana Sahib to celebrate the second day of Baba Guru Nanak’s birthday. They are performing religious rituals and preparing for the grand events planned for the occasion. The district administration has completed all preparations to welcome the Indian Sikh pilgrims.

The main ceremony will take place tomorrow, featuring a Nagar Kirtan rally with over 30,000 expected participants. The rally, which includes prayers, devotional music, and processions, will mark the peak of Guru Nanak’s birthday celebrations in the region.

Baba Guru Nanak, born in 1469 in Talwandi, Punjab, is revered as a spiritual leader who emphasized equality, devotion, and compassion. His teachings on the oneness of God and unity of humanity continue to inspire millions worldwide.

Guru Nanak Gurpurab, celebrated each November, is a time for Sikh devotees to gather at gurudwaras (Sikh temples) for prayers, kirtan (devotional songs), and langar (community meals). The celebration symbolizes the enduring message of love, equality, and compassion that Guru Nanak shared with the world.

Preparations have been finalized in Nankana Sahib for the celebrations marking the 556th birth anniversary of Baba Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the founder of Sikhism.

According to the district administration, all public and private educational institutions in the city will remain closed from November 4 to November 6, while academic activities at Baba Guru Nanak University will be suspended from November 3 to November 6.

A spokesperson for the district administration said that colleges in the city will also remain closed in view of the large gatherings expected during the celebrations. Chief Executive Education Shazia Bano and the university administration have issued formal notifications for the closure of institutions.
