Punjab Assembly halts action against 26 suspended PTI members amid talks

Lahore: The Punjab Assembly has temporarily suspended further action against 26 opposition lawmakers from Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), pending the outcome of ongoing negotiations between the government and the opposition.
According to government sources, the Speaker has ordered a pause in all proceedings until dialogue efforts yield results. The Assembly Secretariat had planned additional action against 19 of the suspended members.
Notably, fines imposed on 10 members accused of vandalism in the Assembly—amounting to over Rs. 2 million—have also been withheld. Second, notices and salary deductions for these fines have not been issued.
Additionally, efforts to remove 9 opposition committee chairpersons through no-confidence motions have been put on hold. Previously, four chairpersons had already been ousted through this method. The government had earlier planned to remove a total of 13 opposition chairpersons from standing committees.
