Sindh to launch air safari linking Karachi and Mohenjo-Daro

The Sindh government has announced plans to introduce an air safari service between Karachi and Mohenjo-Daro in an effort to promote tourism and highlight the province’s historical heritage.
Officials said the initiative is part of a broader strategy to boost cultural tourism and attract both domestic and international visitors. The project will be operated under an agreement signed between the Sindh Tourism Development Corporation and a private aviation company.
The agreement was formalised by Managing Director Fayaz Ali Shah and CEO Imran Aslam, marking a significant step toward enhancing tourism infrastructure in the region. Authorities noted that the air safari will offer passengers a unique aerial experience, including views of Karachi’s coastline, mangrove forests, and the diverse landscapes of Sindh.

Speaking on the occasion, officials emphasised that the service is designed to provide a new way for visitors to explore the province’s cultural and natural attractions while improving accessibility to key heritage sites.
Mohenjo-Daro, one of the world’s earliest urban settlements, dates back around 5,000 years to the Indus Valley Civilisation. Discovered in the 1920s, the site is known for its advanced urban planning, including a sophisticated drainage system, multi-storey buildings, and the iconic Great Bath.
Historians note that the city reflects a highly organised and peaceful society, with little evidence of warfare or ruling monarchies. Its infrastructure continues to be regarded as remarkably advanced for its time.
Located in the Larkana district, Mohenjo-Daro remains a key cultural landmark, though experts have warned that environmental factors could threaten its preservation in the coming years.
The new air safari service is expected to play a role in raising awareness about the site while contributing to Sindh’s tourism sector.
