Transporters in Lahore and across Punjab have announced a transporters’ strike in Punjab today against heavy fines imposed under the Traffic Ordinance 2025. Leaders of the Pakistan Transport United Action Committee held a press conference in Lahore, demanding the immediate withdrawal of the ordinance, calling it unfair and harmful to their businesses.

They warned that until the ordinance is withdrawn, public transport, goods transport, mini Mazda, loaders, and rickshaws would remain off the roads. Both intra-city, inter-district, and inter-provincial transport services would be suspended during the strike.

The first round of talks between transporters and the Punjab government failed to reach an agreement. According to the Transport Association, the next round of negotiations is scheduled for 2 PM today to resolve the ongoing dispute.

Punjab Inspector General Dr. Usman Anwar responded to the strike, saying that in civilized countries, law enforcement is supported rather than strikes. He emphasized that driving without a license is extremely dangerous and can lead to fatal accidents. He added that the safety of school children cannot be compromised under any circumstances.

In conclusion, the transporters’ strike in Punjab has created widespread disruption, affecting daily commuters and goods movement. Authorities and transporters are under pressure to find a solution quickly to restore normal traffic and ensure public safety.
