Washington: U.S. President Donald Trump has given Hamas a deadline of three to four days to respond to a peace proposal aimed at ending the Gaza war.

The plan, presented with Israel’s backing, includes a ceasefire, the release of hostages by Hamas within 72 hours, the group’s complete disarmament, and the gradual withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza.

According to the proposal, an interim authority will be established after the conflict, which Trump himself will directly lead. The initiative has been welcomed by global powers as well as Arab and Muslim countries, though Hamas has yet to give an official response.

In a speech to military officers in Virginia, Trump warned: “We only need one signature, and if that does not happen, they will face the consequences.”

Palestinian sources confirmed that Hamas has begun internal consultations with its political and military leadership at home and abroad, which could take several days due to complexities. Qatar also announced it would hold talks with Hamas and Turkey to discuss the proposal further.

As part of the deal, Hamas would be excluded from Gaza’s future governance, but members willing to adopt a peaceful political role would be granted amnesty.
