Balochistan gas shortage

QUETTA – Chief Minister of Balochistan Mir Sarfraz Bugti expressed strong anger over low gas pressure during severe cold weather. He said many cities, including Quetta, Ziarat, Sui, and Qalat, were facing extreme hardship. Residents struggled to cook and stay warm as gas availability remained insufficient across the province.

A high-level meeting chaired by the chief minister was held with officials from PPL and Sui Southern Gas Company. Members of the Balochistan Assembly attended and raised complaints regarding reduced gas pressure and non-availability. The discussion focused on urgent steps to improve supply and prevent public suffering.

Mir Sarfraz Bugti showed concern over gas-related accidents and directed officials to implement stronger preventive measures. He emphasized that limited gas allocation from the Ministry of Energy was unacceptable. The chief minister announced plans to write to the Prime Minister of Pakistan to highlight the crisis.

He stressed that people in cold regions were freezing and unable to cook properly. “Even today, women in Sui are forced to use firewood for cooking,” he said. The chief minister called the situation “unacceptable” and urged immediate resolution to ensure public welfare.

Finally, Bugti instructed officials from PPL and the gas company to fully understand public issues. He warned that no excuses would be tolerated and demanded rapid solutions to the gas shortage. He emphasized that resolving the Balochistan gas crisis must remain a top priority.
