Balochistan citizens criticise hostility despite Afghan refugee support

Residents of Balochistan have highlighted Pakistan’s decades-long support for Afghanistan refugees, calling it a sincere humanitarian effort while expressing concern over growing hostility and security challenges.

Speaking about the presence of Afghan refugees over the past 40 years, citizens said Pakistan had welcomed them with compassion, offering shelter during times of conflict and instability. They noted that refugees were not only provided safe haven but also access to basic necessities such as housing, education and employment opportunities.

Locals emphasized that Pakistani communities consistently demonstrated generosity by sharing limited resources with Afghan families. Many said refugees were treated like members of their own communities, with equal care given to their children in terms of upbringing and support.

However, residents also voiced strong criticism regarding the current situation, alleging that such goodwill has not been reciprocated. They expressed concern that instead of contributing to peace, elements linked to the Afghan Taliban have been associated with rising insecurity.

According to citizens, there is increasing public frustration over what they described as the promotion of militancy and lack of effective measures to curb extremist activities. They argued that such developments have overshadowed the long-standing hospitality extended by Pakistan.

The criticism reflects growing unease among local populations, who believe that peace and stability should be a shared responsibility. Residents stressed that while humanitarian support remains an important value, any form of hostility or threat to national security is unacceptable.

Observers note that public sentiment in Balochistan is shifting, with stronger calls for accountability and a reassessment of policies related to regional security and refugee management.
