Gold prices in Pakistan continued their upward trend on Monday as the price of per tola gold increased by Rs800 across the country, according to the All Pakistan Gems and Jewellers Association.

After the latest increase, the price of gold per tola has reached Rs493,962. The price of 10 grams of gold also went up by Rs686, bringing it to Rs423,492 in the local market.

The rise in domestic gold prices reflects movements in the international bullion market, where gold also recorded an increase. In the global market, gold rose by $8 per ounce, reaching $4,716.

Market analysts say that fluctuations in global economic conditions, currency movements, and investor demand are contributing to the ongoing volatility in gold prices. Gold is traditionally seen as a safe-haven asset, and demand tends to increase during periods of economic uncertainty.

Rising gold prices reshape traditional wedding trends in South Asia

Traders in Pakistan say that rising prices are affecting demand in the local jewellery market, especially among middle-class buyers who are already under pressure due to inflation. Wedding-related purchases are also being impacted, as gold remains a key part of traditional ceremonies in South Asian culture.

Jewellers report that customers are increasingly shifting toward lighter jewellery designs or alternative materials due to high costs. Some are also opting for installment-based purchases or delaying buying decisions in anticipation of price corrections.

Experts believe that unless global economic conditions stabilize, gold prices may continue to fluctuate in the coming weeks. However, long-term demand is expected to remain strong, particularly in emerging markets like Pakistan and India.
