Ahsan Iqbal vows greater economic empowerment for women

Federal Minister for Planning Ahsan Iqbal has said that empowering women remains a key priority of the government, stressing that Pakistani women are highly talented and actively contributing alongside men in every field of life.

He made these remarks while addressing a national consultative session held under the Uraan Pakistan programme on gender equality and women’s economic empowerment.

The minister said economically empowered women play a vital role in improving the upbringing, education and overall development of children, which ultimately strengthens society and the country’s future.

Ahsan Iqbal stated that the government is committed to providing equal opportunities for women to progress in their personal and professional lives. He added that several initiatives are being introduced to help women become financially independent and participate more actively in the economy.

Highlighting government measures, the minister said special business loan facilities have been introduced to support women entrepreneurs and encourage them to start or expand their businesses. He noted that greater financial inclusion for women would contribute significantly to national economic growth.

The planning minister further emphasised that creating a safe and supportive environment for working women is among the government’s top priorities. He said steps are being taken to ensure workplaces are more secure, inclusive and accessible for women across the country.

He also underlined the importance of gender equality in achieving sustainable development goals, adding that women’s participation in education, technology, business and public service is essential for Pakistan’s long-term progress.

The consultative session focused on policies aimed at strengthening women’s role in the economy and promoting equal opportunities in various sectors. Participants discussed measures to improve women’s access to education, employment, entrepreneurship and financial resources.
