The iconic presidential aircraft known as Air Force One has officially been retired after more than 35 years of service, marking the end of an era in American presidential aviation.

The Boeing 747 aircraft, which served as the primary mode of transportation for successive US presidents since 1990, completed its final official journey after transporting Donald Trump back to Washington following his participation in the G7 Summit.

The retirement of the aircraft was acknowledged by White House Communications Director Steven Cheung, who shared a photograph of the plane on social media and described it as a “good and faithful servant,” referring to the final trip as its “last ride.”

The retired aircraft joined the US Air Force fleet in 1990 and served a series of American presidents, beginning with George H. W. Bush and continuing through multiple administrations, including the current presidency of Donald Trump. Throughout its decades of service, the aircraft transported presidents to hundreds of international summits, diplomatic missions and historic events around the world.

Recognizable by its distinctive blue-and-white design, the aircraft became one of the most visible symbols of the American presidency and US global influence. Wherever the president traveled, the aircraft served not only as a means of transportation but also as a mobile command center equipped with advanced communications and security systems.

According to reports, a luxury Boeing 747 aircraft valued at approximately $400 million and gifted by Qatar will now be incorporated into the presidential fleet as a replacement and temporary version of Air Force One. The transition is expected to ensure uninterrupted presidential travel while broader fleet modernization efforts continue.

The retirement closes a significant chapter in presidential aviation history while ushering in a new phase for one of the world’s most recognized aircraft.
