ISLAMABAD – The Awami National Party (ANP) has demanded the immediate dismissal of the Chairman of the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), citing incompetence and a failure to grasp key technical and reform-related matters affecting the telecom sector.

In a statement issued by the party’s spokesperson, the ANP expressed dissatisfaction with the chairman’s conduct during a recent meeting of a parliamentary committee. According to the party, PTA Chairman was unable to provide adequate responses to questions posed by ANP leader Aimal Wali Khan, raising serious concerns about his understanding of the challenges and reforms needed in Pakistan’s telecom landscape.

The party also criticised the chairman’s “unserious” attitude, claiming that he appeared ill-prepared and unaware of essential issues during the session. “Such negligence at the helm of an important regulatory body is unacceptable,” the ANP spokesperson added.

The ANP reiterated its longstanding stance that all federal institutions and departments must be headed by competent professionals appointed strictly on the basis of merit and expertise. The party emphasised that effective leadership is essential for the progress and modernisation of critical sectors such as telecommunications.
