Nepal is facing serious unrest as violent anti-government protests have spread across the country, prompting the army to take positions in several cities to control the situation. The protests, sparked by youth anger over internet restrictions and corruption, have turned deadly, leaving over 20 people dead and hundreds injured in clashes with security forces.

According to international media reports, at least 22 people have been killed and more than 500 injured during violent encounters with police. In a dramatic turn of events, all 1,500 inmates were reportedly freed from Lalitpur jail. Kathmandu Airport remains closed for all flights, while protesters set fire to Bhairahawa Airport, adding to the nationwide chaos.

The protests began when the government imposed a ban on 26 websites, including major social media platforms. Although the government later lifted the ban following widespread public pressure, the demonstrations continued, fueled by long-standing frustrations over corruption and lack of transparency. Despite curfews in major cities including Kathmandu, angry protesters burned down the official residences of President Ram Chandra Paudel and Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli.

Reports also confirm that the homes of several former prime ministers — Pushpa Kamal Dahal (Prachanda), Sher Bahadur Deuba — and Energy Minister Deepak Khadka were damaged or attacked. As the violence intensified, Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli announced his resignation, marking a major political shakeup in an already unstable situation.
