New Delhi: The Indian Supreme Court has rejected the apology of Madhya Pradesh cabinet minister Vijay Shah for making derogatory remarks against Colonel Sophia Qureshi, a serving officer in the Indian Army.
A bench comprising Justice Surya Kant and Justice N. Kotiswar Singh criticised the BJP minister, calling his apology insincere and politically motivated. The court stated, “You are a public representative and must speak responsibly. Your language was disgraceful.”
The court has ordered the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) comprising three senior IPS officers, including one female officer, all to be appointed from outside Madhya Pradesh.
The SIT has been tasked with conducting an impartial investigation and submitting its first status report by May 28. The court also issued a notice to the Madhya Pradesh government regarding the matter.
