Renowned Bollywood filmmaker Vikram Bhatt was arrested on Sunday by a joint team of Rajasthan and Mumbai police. The arrest occurred at Ganga Bhavan on Yari Road, Mumbai, where Bhatt was staying at his sister-in-law’s residence. Authorities acted in connection with an alleged ₹30 crore fraud case. Bhatt had previously dismissed the allegations as baseless. He claimed strong evidence proves his innocence.
The case was filed at Bhopal Pura Police Station, Udaipur, by Dr. Ajay Mardiya, founder of Indra IVF. Dr. Mardiya alleged that Bhatt, his wife Shwetambari, daughter Krishna, and associates persuaded him to invest approximately ₹30 crore. The funds were reportedly meant for four films, several documentaries, and a biopic based on Dr. Mardiya’s late wife’s life. He claimed he was promised potential profits of up to ₹200 crore.
According to the complaint, some projects were left incomplete, and others did not credit Dr. Mardiya for his investment. Bhatt stated the FIR contained factual inaccuracies. He suggested some documents may be false. He added that delays arose because some payments were withheld. Bhatt insists he has complete proof of his innocence and will cooperate with authorities.
Police have begun a detailed investigation to verify the facts and understand the nature of the dispute. Authorities are examining all investments and project documentation. The case has gained significant attention due to Bhatt’s prominence in Bollywood. Large sums of money involved have also increased public interest. Investigators aim to clarify whether the alleged fraud occurred.
Vikram Bhatt has directed several notable films, including Agneepath (1990), Dil Hai Ki Manta Nahin (1991), Ghulam (1998), Kasoor (2001), 1920, and Shaapit. His contribution to Bollywood spans decades and multiple successful projects. Fans and industry insiders are closely following the case. Bhatt’s legal battle could impact his ongoing and future film projects.
