Pakistan and China have decided to extend the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) to Afghanistan, according to officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The move aims to improve regional connectivity and strengthen ties among the three countries, despite the current temporary challenges in Pakistan and Afghanistan. The Pakistan extends CPEC to Afghanistan plan reflects efforts to enhance trade and infrastructure links while promoting regional stability.

During a briefing to the Senate Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs, ministry officials explained that regional cooperation frameworks have been hindered, particularly due to India’s actions, and even forums like SAARC are not functioning effectively. Pakistan is therefore focusing on building stronger bilateral and multilateral relations with neighboring countries.

Officials highlighted that China is concerned about terrorism in Afghanistan, and Pakistan and China share a common position on this issue. The extension of CPEC will connect the corridor to the Maritime Silk Road, further integrating regional trade and economic networks.

Pakistan and China also conduct joint military exercises to address cross-border terrorism, which remains a global threat affecting all nations.

By extending the CPEC to Afghanistan, the Pakistan extends CPEC to Afghanistan initiative is expected to enhance regional cooperation, improve trade routes, and strengthen diplomatic and security ties between Pakistan, China, and Afghanistan, despite temporary challenges in the region.
